University Operations Services

University Operations Services (UOS) provides essential facilities and environmental services to Harvard’s schools and departments. The group consists of Facilities Maintenance Operations, Engineering and Utilities, Transportation Services, Environmental Health and Safety and Applied Technologies.

With approximately 700 employees, UOS is the largest department in all of Central Administration, and has a most varied portfolio, including custodial work, trades work, steam plant and chilled water plant maintenance and operation, utility purchasing, Harvard’s shuttle bus system, parking, the Commuter Choice Program, the Harvard MBTA pass program, EH&S training and compliance work, campus emergency management planning, recycling and The Green Campus Initiative (Harvard’s sustainability program).
